Seven Steps To Peace
by Randy Robison
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. (John 14:27a)
This weekend we honor those who have fought to bring us peace in our homeland. But lets take it one step further and ask, How do we have peace in our hearts?
Ben Stein is the author of a recent book entitled, The Gift of Peace, which comprises 530 lessons in living a life of peace. Hes also a lawyer, economist, writer, actor, teacher and former game show host. I remember him as the teacher in the 80s movie Ferris Beullers Day Off uttering a monotone, Beuller
Beuller
and the host of Win Ben Steins Money. Hes also a brilliant intellectual who has appeared on CNN, Fox News and many other programs.
Most importantly, Ben Stein appears to be a seeker of truth. From his writings, I cannot tell if he believes in Jesus Christ, but he has certainly seen glimpses of God and I want to share some of his Scriptural adages with you on this Memorial Day holiday.
May they bring you closer to peace in the Lord.
#22: I am accepted by God, and thats the best club in town.
#272: Stress is a basic part of human life, but with Gods help, it does not have to be a permanent part of life.
#234: You do not need to carry around other peoples stress.
#156: What you have to unlearn to get to peace and serenity is every bit as important as what you have to learn.
#492: So what if our backs are against the wall? God is our wall.
#393: The truth is that I am a wreck without God and a whole person with God.
#75: The absolutely shortest, surest way to peace is to fall to your knees and ask God for help and surrender to whatever He decides.
This Week
Take one of these points each day this week and make it your "thought of the day." When something or someone tries to rob you of your peace, remind yourself that peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit that lives in you as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Prayer
"Lord, show me your peace. Use these small reminders of your truth to help me live in the serenity of mind that comes from trusting You for all of my needs."
